They are so simple ...
Just visit the site (I added it to our class blog, which students know how to navigate to easily) and type your name. We wrote one collaboratively first.
Then select a theme.
I really like that they have quite a few to choose from, each folder has between 5 to 8 shapes.
Next, a brainstorming page is provided.
Quick tip - if your students aren't proficient at typing just yet have them do brainstorming in another way if you time is limited. The words you type in here will show up on the next page, but you can't click to add them to the actual poem. The students will have to retype anything they add here. We did our brainstorming on sticky notes before we went to the computer lab.
Your brainstorm words show up on the left hand side of the screen, and you can also type the title on the side. Then you'll click the text box inside of the shape to type your poem. When you are done click Finish, or take a screen shot of your poem in color.
From this last page you can print a black and white version, save or share your poem. You could save a PDF version to Dropbox or Google Drive, then have students add color or create a class poetry book on your iPads!
My class loved writing with Theme Poems, and the best part was that they wanted to go home and do more! I even got this sweet poem the next day!
What will your class create with Theme Poems?
