Mental Images with Doodle Buddy & iMovie

This week we started our comprehension unit on creating mental images and visualizations while reading texts. I usually like to start out this unit with poetry, and since this year we are in the midst of all kinds of pumpkin fun, I found some great pumpkin poems and songs.

To quickly find some pumpkin poems I did a Google search for "pumpkin poems". It turned up over 2 million results. Here are the two I used if your looking for some fun pumpkin poems and songs - CanTeach Pumpkin & Jack O' Lanterns and Anne LaBoon's Kindergarten.

This Popplet illustrates the process of taking one of the poems / songs we liked and turning our mental images into an iMovie that we published to YouTube.

Here is our finished video. We really enjoyed doing some simple app smashing.

What kinds of things do you do to get your students visualizing? What is your favorite type of text for this? Mine is poetry!
