Technology Instruction Models - TPACK

I think once we understand that technology should be integrated with curriculum and pedagogy (TPACK) and begin to think about the levels in which technology is being integrated into our projects (SAMR), we will have a better understanding of best practices with educational technology.

TPACK is very simple, and I think that's why it makes so much sense! Just looking at the Venn Diagram above, it becomes so clear. There really is a "sweet spot" for technology instruction in the classroom.

When teachers know their subject content -our state or Common Core standards, the best practices for teaching students - pedagogical knowledge, and have an understanding of technology and what can be done with it, magic happens! This is the time when you think through your lessons and decide what pieces fit best where.

Simply said - there is a time and place for technology, all different types, in the classroom, but it needs to be well thought out and have a specific learning purpose for our students. It can help teach new content, help them reinforce content, or show understanding.

What are your thoughts? How are you incorporating technology while still keeping pedagogy and content in mind? I bet you are already doing it, but now you have a name for it!

Next up - a SAMR & TPACK resource List.ly.
