Are you planning to participate in "An Hour of Code" in your school or classroom? I am, and I'm so excited to share this experience with 3rd - 5th grade students at my school!
Reading a bit on Code.org, and watching this quick video, hooked me in!
Code.org offers tons of great resources, as well as some thought provoking information on the "Why?" behind "An Hour of Code". I think it is especially important to note that computer science is a top paying college degree, with a high demand for positions, but so few students are getting this degree. Let's inspire our youngest students, and start creating a population that will meet these demands.
Sign your class up here and start checking out some of the neat resources that are out there.
Susan Oxnevad at Cool Tools for 21st Century Teachers created an awesome ThingLink packed with resources. It would be a great tool for a starting point in your Hour of Code lessons. I love the way she has the activities labeled by the nubbins!
You may also want to download these free apps for the iPad that your students will love! I've played all of them, and really enjoy them myself! I love the way that coding teaches critical thinking and problem solving skills.
I hope that you get inspired to celebrate Computer Science Education Week and host An Hour of Code in your school or classroom! Be sure to Tweet about it using #HourOfCode and see all the other amazing resources that are posted there.
