Yesterday we read Red Sled by Lita Judge. It's an awesome almost wordless book, so we did a lot of inferring as we read. Watch the book trailer below.
They noticed that the only words in the book were really just sounds. This inspired us to collaboratively write a poem called "Sounds of Winter"!
Here it is ...
We snapped a picture of the poem & then usee iMovie to record ourselves reading. The Justand is a GREAT tool for recording as a class like this. I position the stand on a stool in front of our carpet, then we all gather around - but not too close, so our voices aren't maxing out on the recording. I'm free to point to the poem while they read.
Recording like this is such great practice for fluency! We read the poem together several times before we record, and have students demonstrate using inflections in their voice that we try to repeat. They are excited the entire time since they know we're recording.
Listen to us read it with enthusiasm here ...
Then we just post our poem out in the hall to share, and use Aurasma, to make it interactive! I always post a little sign next to an Aura so that passers by can use a device to access the augmented reality.
Here's the rest of our winter inspired bulletin board. We were working on those cutting skills!
