Rotting Pumpkin: A Visual Diary With Haiku Deck

All through October and November we have been exploring pumpkins in many ways. You can read about a few of the fun things we did here, here, here, and here.

I think my favorite by far was reading Rotten Pumpkin, then documenting with Haiku Deck as we watched a small pie pumpkin decompose.

We carved and investigated the pumpkin first. Then we sealed it up in a big glass jar, the kind you would put pickles or pretty things in on your counter. I used some colored masking tape to seal it, and never had one problem.

During each step we took many pictures, annotated over some of them, then added them to a Haiku Deck. Students got to practice taking pictures within the app, adding thoughtful and observant text, and arranging the text layout. It was a great experience that we usually did collaboratively over the Apple TV.

Here is our final result ...

Created with Haiku Deck, the free presentation app for iPad

My favorite parts are when they use such awesome descriptive language about the pumpkin and the decomposing process!

So remember, next year ...
