For My Mamaw

School's out, but I've been pretty quiet here and on Twitter this past week.

I was privileged to be with my family, and part of saying goodbye, to my maternal grandmother Joyce Elaine Gillett. She has blessed my life and her family for many years, teaching us a great many things. I know that she is in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, and I rejoice that she is whole again, at peace, and has all memories.

I took the photo below and wrote this poem for her and my mother as I sat next to them. These are their hands.

As much as I already miss her, I know that she remains here through all her love shown to me and my family. She's there, each time I feed the birds, water my plants, tend the chickens, bake a cobbler, pinch an ear or wear her ring.
