Earth Day ThingLink - A Day Late

So, I may be a day late and a dollar short on Earth Day, but I haven't gushed about how ThingLink is an awesome curation and app smashing tool in a while so I wanted to share some of what my class did to celebrate.

We are starting to dig into synthesis, including author's purpose, during our reader's workshops. So when my friend Lori, who shares my book love and lets me borrow all her new books, shared Step Gently Out by Helen Frost, I thought it would be a perfect fit for Earth Day.

Here's a book trailer to get you excited -

Step Gently Out • A nature picture book for all ages from Step Gently Out on Vimeo.

We read the beautiful poem and decided that Helen Frost wrote the poem to share her love of bugs and inspire others to notice, protect and enjoy them too. We put all our thoughts about her purpose for writing the book into ABCya's Word Cloud. Then used Pic Collage to combine it with images from the book.

We used ThingLink to add each student's thinking recorded from Croak.it, and added a few extras at the top. Here's the final result.

They loved hearing all their peers when it was put together & love watching the book trailers at the top.

Hope you had an excellent Earth Day!
