Metacognition and Augmented Reality

Do you use Reading With Meaning and Comprehension Connections to teach reading comprehension in your classroom? I love the strategies and tools in both these books! Each literacy classroom K-2 uses the thinking stems from Tanny McGregor's Comprehension Connections.

At the beginning of each unit we make an anchor chart together, and work to use the thinking stems.
Here's the one we made for Metacognition -

To support my students I make a small version of this chart for them to glue into their Reader's Response Journals. This year I wanted to use augmented reality (Aurasma) to add another layer of support.

We used a picture of our anchor chart and iMovie to record the students reading the chart.

The small anchor chart glued into their journals is the trigger, so anytime they want to have the chart read to them, they just grab an iPad, fire up the Aurasma app, watch and listen!

It's a public aura, so use your Aurasma app to view our cool video!

How are you using augmented reality to enhance your classroom?

P.S. - Don't forget to update Aurasma if you are using it on an iPhone or iPad!
